From water confident to ocean ready

Surf lessons where safety knowledge comes first — reading rips, reading conditions, and reading the day. Board skills follow.

WHY SAFETY FIRST

The pool teaches swimming. The ocean teaches judgment.

A child who can swim 50 metres in a lane is not yet safe in the surf. Moving water asks different questions — where the rip is, where the bank sits, when a set is coming, and what to do when you lose your board.

Most surf lessons teach the pop-up. We teach the water first, because ocean literacy is the part that keeps working long after the lesson ends.

What we cover:

  • Rip identification and escape — the single most important ocean safety skill

  • Reading swell, sets and changing conditions before paddling out

  • Positioning — staying visible, avoiding collisions, where to sit, and why

  • Where and when to surf — flags, conditions, local knowledge

  • Board skills — paddling, timing, and standing up. Last on the list on purpose.

  • Knowing when it isn't your day — judgement is a surf skill

Absolute legend, dangerously contagious enthusiasm. 10 out of 10 would book a surf lesson with Simon again!
